SEBRING -- For the first time in more than a decade there will not be a county-sponsored Christmas tree recycling program this year.
'It really boils down to two factors, economics and lack of participation,' Highlands County Recycling Coordinator Christy Reed said.
Since the post-holiday program began in 1990, residents had turned in literally thousands of trees that were ground into mulch. However, since a high water mark in 1997, the participation had slowed with fewer and fewer trees coming in each year.
