Do Something Different this Christmas
Do Something Different this Christmas
If you can’t face another round of Christmas shopping for a gifts that nobody appreciates then a budding Internet entrepreneur may have the answer.
October 8, 2005 -- David King, 42, a jobbing actor and presenter, living in London, has turned fundraiser with the launch of onemilliongifts.com which aims to sell one million charitable gifts this Christmas.
“After reading about the explosion of Christmas shopping on the internet I came up with the idea that the internet is surely not just a tool for wealthy consumers to buy their Christmas gifts, but it could also be used to mobilise aid for the millions of people in desperate need of help in developing countries at the same time”
If he succeeds in reaching his target not only will he raise millions in aid but he will probably become part of Internet history.
The site is very simple and offers links to World Vision, one of the worlds leading development and relief charity agencies.
“ My site links to World Visions Alternative Gift Catalogue where you can buy your friends, family and work colleagues a charitable gift for Christmas. There are over 100 different gifts to choose from to suit every budget. For example, a bicycle, a herd of goats or if you have lots of cash to spare you can buy a school.”
Once you have selected your gift you can choose to either send your gift with a personalised card or you can send it with an e-card.
“ Its all very safe and secure. You can buy your gift in UK pounds or Euros from anywhere in the world using your debit card or credit card. With the e-card option you can send your gift to anyone anywhere on the planet instantly or choose a date when you would like it sent. ”
He manages the site from home and updates his Million Gifts Counter by tracking sales on a daily basis. He says.
“ I realise that one million gifts is perhaps an impossible target to reach. But there are millions of people that need assistance and there are millions of wealthy consumers who will be buying Christmas presents this year on the Internet. Even if I sell only a few hundred gifts then that’s a few hundred people helped.”
This is one hell of a good idea. Not only does it allow you to buy your nearest and dearest a unique gift from the comfort of your own home, without the drudgery of hitting the high street for hours on end, yet at the same time, you are buying a gift that brings hope and assistance to those who most need it in the developing world.
