1/2 cup Hugs
4 teaspoons Kisses
4 cups Love
1 cup Special Holiday Cheer
3 teaspoons Christmas Spirits
2 cups Goodwill Toward Man
1 Sprig of Mistletoe
1 medium-size bag of Christmas Snowflakes (the regular kind won't do!)

Directions:
Mix hugs, kisses, smiles and love until consistent.

Blend in holiday cheer, peace on earth, Christmas spirits and good will toward men.

Use the mixture to fill a large, warm heart, where it can be stored for a lifetime, (it never goes bad!).

Serve as desired under mistletoe, sprinkled liberally with special Christmas Snowflakes.

It is especially good when accompanied by Christmas Carols and family get-togethers.

Serve to one and all - and have a very, Merry Christmas!

CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM CAKE

. 2 eggs, separated
. 1-1/2 cups sugar, divided
. 1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
. 1/2 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa
. 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
. 1/2 teaspoon salt
. 1/2 cup vegetable oil
. 1 cup buttermilk or sour milk*
. ICE CREAM LAYERS (recipe follows)
. 3/4 cup sweetened whipped cream or non-dairy whipped topping
. 1/2 cup fresh fruit, sliced
. CHOCOLATE CREAM ROSETTES (recipe follows, optional)

Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour three 9-inch round baking pans. (If only 2 pans are available, reserve one-third of batter in refrigerator while first 2 layers are baking.)

In small bowl, beat egg whites until foamy; gradually add 1/2 cup sugar, beating until stiff peaks form. In large bowl, stir together flour, remaining 1 cup sugar, cocoa, baking soda and salt. Add oil, buttermilk and egg yolks; beat until smooth. Gently fold egg white mixture into batter. Pour about 1-2/3 cups batter into each prepared pan.

Bake 18 to 20 minutes or until cake springs back when touched lightly in center. Cool 5 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks. (Bake remaining layer, if necessary.) Cool completely.

Wrap each layer separately in foil; freeze several hours or several days in advance of serving. Prepare ICE CREAM LAYERS. Remove cake and ICE CREAM LAYERS from freezer; peel off foil. On serving plate, alternately layer cake and ice cream layers, beginning and ending with cake. Wrap tightly; return to freezer. Just before serving, frost top of cake with whipped cream. Arrange fruit in decorative design on top; pipe on CHOCOLATE ROSETTES, if desired. 10 to 12 servings.

ICE CREAM LAYERS: Line two 9-inch round layer pans with foil; working quickly, evenly spread 1/2 gallon of your favorite flavor slightly softened ice cream into prepared pans. Cover tightly; freeze until firm.

CHOCOLATE CREAM ROSETTES: In small mixer bowl, stir together 1/4 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons HERSHEY'S Cocoa. Stir in 1/2 cup cold whipping cream and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Beat until stiff; spoon into decorating bag fitted with large rosette tip.

* To sour milk: Use 1 tablespoon white vinegar plus milk to equal 1 cup.

What's going on here on Christmas Island is an environmental disaster. Scientists warn that the ecological damage being inflicted on Australia's remote Indian Ocean territory by the 5mm-long yellow crazy ant is spiralling out of control.

Barrow is holding one of Christmas Island's famous red crabs. The joints between its carapace and legs are stiff. Its eyes have a strange, milky glaze. The crab has been sprayed with formic acid by crazy ants. "The crabs are blinded and paralysed by the acid. They become dehydrated and starve to death," Barrow explains.

CHRISTMAS HIT CAIRO like an arctic blizzard last month: near-instantly, (not quite) unexpectedly and affecting everything in the area. It’s on the trees, around the windows, in the hotels and throughout the shops. Once-empty window frames were trimmed with glimmering garlands and lively lights, while neighborhood flower shops sprouted fields of red poinsettias and forests of live spruce trees — and even the odd cut Douglas Fir.

The Christmas contagion had arrived. It wasn’t a religious holiday for the 90 (or so) percent of the population that identifies itself as Muslim, but it was certainly a secular reason to hold a party or trim a tree. Once the province of foreign residents and the nation’s relative handful of Western Christians (the vast majority of Christians in Egypt follow the Orthodox tradition), Christmas today is more of a week-long event.

Not even the three-year-old declaration of Orthodox Christmas (January 7) as a national holiday has dampened enthusiasm for celebrating from December 25 through December 31, a period that has morphed into a week-long secular break.

LONDON (MarketWatch) -- U.K. retail group John Lewis Partnership PLC Monday posted solid Christmas sales figures as consumers splurged on gourmet food, beauty products and the latest electrical gadgets, fueling hopes that other retailer's may have performed well over the festive season.
Stripping out fuel, sales at the company's supermarket division Waitrose rose 11% over the five weeks to Jan. 6, with like-for-like sales up 5.6%.
Total like-for-like sales at the John Lewis department stores, which also includes the website and catalogue business, rose 11% over the five weeks to Jan. 6.
Over the same period, fashion sales including beauty rose 10%. Home sales rose 9.5%, while electrical and home technology sales jumped 15%.
John Lewis didn't provide any profit figures for the period.

DOES HER OWN CHOPPING Paula Deen, above, brought Southern home cooking to the Food Network. “The Taste of Home Cookbook” is one of the best-selling cookbooks of the year.

It was the year the people took back the food. Expertise was out: the Food Network edged aside chefs like Mario Batali to make room for home-cooking queens like Paula Deen, Sandra Lee and Rachael Ray. The most popular new food magazines and cookbooks were collections of recipes from real home cooks (or those who pretended to be), often stamped with the irresistible words “home-style,” “country” and “everyday.”

And one of the Web’s most popular independent food blogs, according to data collected by Alexa, a Web information company, was an undiscriminating one titled World Famous Recipes. Bill Austin of Scottsdale, Ariz., collects recipes and recipe links at famousrecipes.wordpress.com, presenting them unedited and without comment. The site’s motto: “Famous and not so famous recipes — who are you to decide? Who am I to decide?”

2 cups biscuit mix
2 TBSP packed light brown sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
1-1/2 cups (12-oz. can) evaporated milk
1 tsp. ground allspice
1/2 cup solid-pack pumpkin
2 TBSP vegetable oil
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla

In a large mixer bowl, combine biscuit mix, sugar, cinnamon and allspice.
Add evaporated milk, pumpkin, oil, eggs and vanilla; beat until smooth. Pour
1/4 to 1/2 cup batter (depending on size of pancake desired) onto heated and
lightly greased griddle. Cook until top surface is bubbly and edges are dry.
Turn; cook until golden. Keep pancakes warm. Serve with syrup or honey.
